The “COVID-19 + Public Realm” panel brought together community leaders in a discussion of how cities and community leaders moved quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic to offer places for people to gather, eat, and drink outside. Highlighting outdoor dining on city streets, opening streets for people, and creating new pop-up parks, the panelists included:
City of Boston, Director of Public Realm | Outdoor Dining + Permitting
City of Somerville, Mayors Office | Outdoor dining in David Square
City of Salem, Traffic and Parking | Spaces For People
Kittleson & Associates | Shared Streets
Neighborways Design | Shared Streets
The Trust for Public Land | Pop-up Parks
Sharing lessons learned and reflections, the panel allowed for an open conversation on how the public realm can help support communities moving forward in both temporary and permanent ways.
