The “Route to Placemaking” workshop brought together a series of panelist to discuss their work to plan, permit, and install placemaking projects in their communities.  The panelists included the following.

  • Barr Foundation

  • City of Chelsea & Relish Management

  • Enterprise Community Partners

  • Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance

  • Mystic River Watershed Association

  • Urban Edge/JPNDC

This was follow-up with a small group activity and discussion where participants could ask questions to the panelists and their peers. The guiding questions included:

  • “Learning from the Experts”—Summarizes the five short presentations featured at the event.

  • “I Know That…”—Documents what participants knew about the implementation process for each intervention.

  • “This Resource Helped Me”—Lists resources, precedents, and funding sources that supported participants’ placemaking efforts in the past.

  • “I Don’t Know…”—Outlines what participants wished to learn more about 5. “Collaborators”—Gives an overview of participants.

Many of the questions were from City staff about how to permit placemaking projects with responses that ranged from creating a full permitting process, such as the City of Boston, or to just getting a quick sign off from someone at City Hall.
